Microsoft Gets Into the VoIP Wold with a Bang!
------------
Microsoft acquires VoIP developer
Microsoft said it has acquired Media-Streams.com, a 23-employee Zurich-based company that develops VoIP business applications. The software giant says it plans to incorporate Media-Streams' technologies into its corporate IM platform, Microsoft Office Live Communications Server (LCS) and its Office productivity tools. Media-Streams' software is already integrated with Microsoft Outlook and Exchange. The deal's financial terms were not disclosed. The move follows Microsoft's acquisition of VoIP startup Teleo this summer. Microsoft is incorporating Teleo's technology into its consumer IM service, MSN Messenger. The company's latest purchase will help it add VoIP to the Office Live platform, which already supports real-time communications via IM.

Make sure you read the notes...very important to not only understand the process but gives some great tips too. You'll also find links to some other VoIP bandwidth calculators and testing tools at the bottom of the website.

Those looking for a T1 Connection need look no further then T1 Quotes . Net which is a great online way to get real time T1 Quotes. They seem to have launched a sister site called VoIP and Broadband Phone Services but it does not seem to do anything yet except sell bandwith. I am sure they have plans for it.

So what is going on today?
"By Leslie Cauley, USA TODAY
SAN ANTONIO — Sitting in his office, Randall Stephenson, the point man on SBC Communications' Internet TV project, is a picture of confidence.
But pressed on the question of whether SBC has made the right choice in betting on "IPTV" — short for Internet Protocol TV — a cool but largely unproven technology, the 6-foot-4-inch Oklahoman blanches.
"If I bet wrong, I didn't break the future of this business," counters Stephenson, who is also SBC's chief operating officer. "For a company of this size, $4 billion is very little money. If I bet wrong, it's not much money for us to burn.""
Now how the heck does that grab you? With that type of attitude I think companies like Packet8, iConnectHere and Lingo will do quite well in the broadband phone services market. As long as SBC is just throwing away money sooner or later the smarter providers are going to do real damage.
Next up this week we see Trinsic seems to be mending its losses even though they have backed off on VoIP a bit. You can read that here on The Digest. As a telecom agent I have a lot of Ztell / Trinsic Residential Home Phone Service customers and don't want to loose that income.
One of the best VoIP Sites online today Broad Band Phone Services has started up a VoIP Articles Section. Looks like a great new resource.
That is all for today,
